Anthony (Tony) Bertrand Woods was born on January 1, 1948, in Biloxi, Mississippi, to Stanley and Lucille Woods who preceded him in death; two sisters also proceeded in death. Phyllis Woods and Lois Kimbro and granddaughter Jasmine Torrain. Tony graduated from M.F. Nichols High School, Biloxi, MS, in 1966.
He was baptized at St. Paul United Methodist Church, in Biloxi, MS, at an early age. He served diligently as St. Paul in several capacities: member of the Board of Trustees, United Methodist Men, Men's Choir, Bible Study class, and the Building Committee to erect the current edifice. One of his great joys was driving the church van to pick children up for Sunday School.
Tony was humble and faithful man who loved the Lord and his family deeply. He married Carolyn Mack Woods. Who was married for 47.5 years.
His career included becoming the first African American to serve as an assistant manager of Winn Dixie and working as a pipe fitter at Ingalls Shipbuilding.
Survived by his wife Carolyn Woods, Ocean Springs, MS; one sister, Sheila McGee (Bobby Smotherman, Jr.) Hermitage, TN. Three Daughters Dawn (Joseph) Torrian, Leavenworth, KS; Adrienne Woods, Ocean Springs, MS; Maria Stallworth, Leavenworth, KS; and Two Grandchildren Alyssa Woods, Arnez Woods; both from Leavenworth, KS.
He also leaves a special cousin William Bradford (Little Bill) Houston, TX. Also, special friends from Ingalls Shipbuilding. And a host of friends & cousins from the coast of Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 am, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
