Bernardine Agnes Austin, a resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on June 16, 2024, in Mobile, Alabama. Bernardine was born in Foxworth, Mississippi, on April 15, 1930, the daughter of Arthur and Carrie Petite (who preceded her in death).

She was a 1949 graduate of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic School and a Cradle Catholic member of Our Mother of Sorrows. Bernardine was a member of Ladies Auxiliary and Knights of Peter Claver, as well as the Associates Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament (ASBS).

Bernardine was married to Clifford Austin on November 17, 1952. To this union, were born 12 children.

Bernardine invested her time raising her children as a stay-at-home mother and later worked as a housekeeper and caregiver. She was outgoing, generous, outspoken, and the strong matriarch of her family. She will be remembered for her love of people and caring heart.

 In her spare time, she enjoyed good food with friends and shopping at thrift stores anywhere, often reselling her thrift treasures. 

Bernardine was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; brothers, Edmund Petite, Otis Petite, Arthur Petite, Jr., and Aldus Petite; and sisters, Adelaide Petite, and Rosalie Smith and children Felix Austin; Clifford Austin, Jr.

Bernardine is survived by her children, Adolph Austin of Biloxi, MS; Cecelia Murphy (Joseph) of Winchester, CA; Steven Austin of Pass Christian, MS; Wallace Austin (BreKeena) of McKinney, TX; Jeffery Austin (Veronica) of Senatobia, MS; Scott Austin of Biloxi, MS; Bernardine McWaine (Jeffery) of Las Vegas, NV; Myrna Austin of McKinney, TX; Phoebe Ingram of Biloxi, MS and Kathleen Brooks of Rancho Mission Viejo, CA. She also leaves 26 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. 

 Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, at 11:00 am.  Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
