Mrs. Bobbie T. Jackson, age 79, passed away in Gulfport, MS on Tuesday, February 15, 2011. Born August 12, 1931, in Summerland, MS to the late Alfred and Ada Thomas. In her early years, Bobbie attended Jones County Training School then continued her education at MS Industrial College in Holly Springs, MS, where she received her bachelor's degree in education. Bobbie was united in holy matrimony to the late Andrew C. Jackson. Later she received her master's degree in education from Jackson State University. Bobbie was an educator and worked for the Biloxi School District for more than 30 years. In 1994, she retired as Principal of Gorenflo Elementary. Bobbie was very active with Leadership Gulf Coast and the local Boys and Girls Club. She was also very active with the Jackson State University Gulf Coast Alumini Association, serving a term as President and numerous other offices. During the holidays, Bobbie was instrumental in the Feed the Needy Programs on the Gulf Coast. After retirement she worked part-time for the Students Working Against Tobacco program. She was a faithful member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Gulfport, MS, where she taught Sunday School and was also the Sunday School Coordinator. She served on the church Administrative Staff Ministry and was a longtime member of the choir. Survivors include a son, Willie Ray Thomas of Summerland, MS; a daughter, Anita Michelle Jackson of Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Eula Ruth (Marzell) Mitchell of West Palm Beach, FL; Mary Jo Reed of Biloxi, MS; one brother, Jim Thomas of Taylor, TX; seven grandchildren and a host of many other relatives and friends. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to the professional staff of RICHMOND-AUGUST FUNERAL HOME.
