Colyar Odess Frierson, born on January 20, 1929, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022.
He was the third child of Robert T. Frierson and Sadie Frierson. He attended Grade School in Yazoo County, MS.
He was a Football Coach and Industrial Arts teacher at M.F. Nichols. He was a Coach and Instructor at Jeff Davis Community College, and a mentor to countless students.
His love to travel and adventures, took him around the world.
Colyar O. Frierson, P.G.E.R., was the President of the Mississippi State Association of ELKS. The retired Educator of 50 years of experience was a graduate of Yazoo City Training School, received The Bachelor of Science Degree from Alcorn State, Master of Science Degree from Bradley University, a special Certificate in Industrial Education from Clemson University, and further study at The University of Missouri. He was a Deacon and Trustee of New Bethel Baptist Church in Biloxi, 33rd Degree Mason, a member of Henry Beck Lodge #307, Karun Shrine Temple #48, member Handsboro American Legion Post -223, Life Member American Industrial Arts Association, Life Member Alcorn National Alumni Association, Life Member, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, subscribing Life Member Biloxi Branch N.A.A.C.P. and a member of Phi Delta Kappa. He was an Infantry Soldier during the Korean Conflict and an Honorably Discharged Veteran.
The President was initiated into ELKDOM at AJ. Oakes Lodge #307, Yazoo City. He was a past member of H.W. Nichols Lodge #556, Clarksdale, Past member of Excelsior Lodge #834, Canton, and was an active member of Vernon Gilbert Lodge #576, Biloxi, Mississippi. Bro. Frierson's experience in Elkdom included Past Exalted Ruler of Vernon Gilbert Lodge #576, Past District Deputy of the 7th District of Mississippi, Past Assistant to the State President of the Mississippi State Association and Trustee of The National Active Exalted Rulers Council.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Aledia Frierson, his parents; four brothers, Brooker Frierson, Eddie Frierson, Robert Frierson, West Frierson, his sister Leeola Frierson, and his beloved daughter Trywa Watson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his companion Betty Campbell, one son-in-law James Watson, Jr., and one grandson Ajene Watson, the Frierson extended family, the Campbell extended family, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, and his New Bethel family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, at 11:00 am. Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
