Mr. David Howard, Jr., of Gulfport, MS was born April 7, 1954 in New Orleans, LA; to the late David Howard, Sr. and Emma Lee Howard. Affectionately referred to as "Brother," he departed this life January 1, 2014. David united with Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. W.T. Guice. Upon graduating from Gulfport High School in 1973, David went on to pursue higher education at Jackson State University, earning a Bachelors degree in Art Education. He was a passionate artist, entrepreneur and free spirit. After completing his studies as Jackson State University, David returned to Gulfport where he held various jobs including serving as an Art Tutor for the local community and tutoring at Mt. Bethel. He was also a Freelance Artist and loved cooking. He later moved to Los Angeles, CA where he continued to broaden his artistic abilites. In order to dedicate his service to God, David joined a Rastafarian International Christian organization called the Twelve Tribes of Israel; an organization founded in jamaica with a House in California. During one of the Organization's public Sunday meetings, he answered the call to serve as Reuben First, this is akin to serving as a church deacon. He represented the Tribe of Reuben in California for nine years. A faithful son, David returned to Gufport in 2006 to assist his parents after Hurricane Katrina. He was preceded in death by his father, David Howard, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Emma Lee Howard, two brothers, Bernard Howard of Ontario, CA and Brian (Tasha) Barlkley of Gulfport, MS; tow sisters, Carolyn Ann Drummor of Gulfport, MS and Belinda Joyce (Reverend P.J.) Williams of Jackson, MS; special friends, Erica Gay and her son, Meshak Gay both of Gulfport, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends. Services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 2100 30th Avenue, Gulfport, MS. Visitation from 10:00-11:00AM with services beginning at 11:00AM. Interment to follow immediately at Pine Ridge Gardens. The family of Mr. David Howard, Jr. have entrusted his care to the professional staff of RICHMOND-AUGUST FUNERAL HOME.
