Donnette Muree Smith, lovingly known as "Mom," departed this world on October 23, 2024, at home, leaving behind a legacy of love, integrity, and connection. Born on February 18, 1953, in Panola, Alabama, Donnette was an extraordinary woman who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to both her career and her family. Donnette spent time working at the Bank of Mississippi and later for Ingall's Shipbuilding. Beyond her professional life, her most cherished role was that of a mother and grandmother. Her ability to connect with people of all ages reflected her vibrant personality, and her unwavering support was a beacon of hope for her family. She truly loved her family and always made them feel cherished.
Her mother, Huida W. Nawls, her children and grandchildren fondly remember her as a guiding force in their lives. Huelondria Smith and Yennette Anderson, her daughters, along with her son, Hughie D. Smith, grew up under her watchful eye, learning valuable lessons about integrity and unconditional love. She often said, "Unconditional love is tough," a mantra she embodied in her everyday actions. Donnette introduced her children to God and consistently encouraged them to live their lives the right way, always expressing pride in their accomplishments.
Donnette was also a devoted grandparent, leaving behind a wonderful legacy through her grandchildren: Kiantae Payton, Cameron Williams, Eljim Williams Jr, Jalen Anderson, Nadia Anderson, and Tristan Anderson. Her heart swelled with joy for each of them, including her great-granddaughter, Kori Payton, who brought her boundless happiness.
Life’s simple pleasures brought Donnette joy. She loved watching cartoon movies and Hallmark shows, finding tranquility in sitting outside, and spreading warmth through her cooking, always inviting her loved ones to the table. Through countless memories, she imparted wisdom to her children, teaching them not only how to enjoy activities like double dutch and skating, but also the importance of camaraderie and looking out for one another.
Her love extended beyond her family, as Donnette was a military spouse, demonstrating resilience while stationed in England, forging a path of strength and support for those around her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Lilly Windham; grandfather, Ike Windham; uncle, Revish Windham; Aunt, Janice Bowman; first cousin, Ike Gipson; and father, George Conner. Their memories will surely remain alive in the hearts of those who loved her.
To honor the life of Donnette Muree Smith, a visitation will take place on October 30, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 PM.
