Doris Mary Broussard Lazard, (89), a resident of Biloxi, MS, passed away on March 25, 2025, in Biloxi.
Doris was born in Iberia Parish, LA, on November 11, 1935. Doris was the sixth of nine children born to Philogene and Josephine Broussard. Doris graduated from St. Edward’s High School in New Iberia, LA. Doris then went on to attend Xavier University in New Orleans, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelors degree in Education. While at Xavier she met her college sweetheart, Charles Lazard. After both having graduated from Xavier in 1958, Doris and Charles later married on June 21, 1958. Charles and Doris went on to have six children, Arthur, Mark, Zachary, Dymphna, Hyacinth and Xavier. A devoted mother to her children, lifelong devout Catholic, she and Charles sacrificed to make sure their children received the best education possible, all six attended parochial schools throughout. They were one of the first families to integrate parochial schools in Biloxi. Doris had several small children at the time but supported her husband throughout the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Charles, sons, Arthur and Mark, sisters Lovella Norman and Noella Bostick, brothers Kelly Broussard and Elgee Broussard. She is survived by sisters, Mercedese Broussard, Doryanne Looper, Marilyn Broussard, and Carolyn Griffin. Doris is survived by four children, Zachary (Frankie) Lazard, Dymphna Dumas, Hyacinth (Jon) Andersen and Xavier (Teresa) Lazard, a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a host of lifelong friends.
Funeral services for Doris will be held on April 7, 2025, at 11:00am at Nativity BVM Cathedral in Biloxi with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
