George Henry Toney Jr., 80, a resident of Chicago, Illinois, passed away April 17, 2021, in D’Iberville, Mississippi.
George Henry Toney Jr., known as “Billy,” was born in Chicot, Arkansas, on October 29, 1940. The son of George and Ora Lee Toney (Moses).
George graduated from Richard T. Crane High School and attended Richard T. Crane Junior College. He received a certificate in Data Processing and Programming Administration.
George was married to Joyce Simpson on April 18, 1964, 2 children were born through their union.
George enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958 serving as an Asset Management Technician and also was a member of the All-Air Force Basketball Team. After separating from the Air Force, George had several occupations. He was an entrepreneur, owned a restaurant “Chicken Unlimited” and a gas station. George drove the bus for Chicago Transit Authority and worked as an Insurance Agent until his retirement.
George enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, roller skating, bowling, and doing word puzzles. He was a talented singer and drawing artist. Above all, he loved to laugh.
George was preceded in death by both parents, George and Ora Lee Toney (Moses), and son-in-law, Larry Williams.
George is survived by his only sister, Helen Toney; 2 children, Venus Toney-Williams and George H Toney III (Diane); 4 grandchildren, Shamika Toney Ray (Daron), Marcus Toney, Whitney Williams, and Jeremiah Williams; 3 great-grandchildren, Adarian Ray, Arial Ray and
Adin Ray, 8 nieces and 2 nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service for George Henry Toney Jr. will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 12:30 PM.
