Helen Joe Young

Helen Joe Young was born on January 13, 1934, to the late Joe and Mary Jane Floyd in Magee, Mississippi. She departed this life on November 30, 2018, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Helen was born and raised in Magee, MS where she accepted Christ at an early age. She attended McLaurin High School in Magee, MS. She married Lee Percy Young and later moved to Gulfport, MS where she spent her remaining adult years. Helen worked for many years in the Culinary Arts field. She was employed for many years by the Royal D’Iberville Hotel of Biloxi and the Best Western of Gulfport. She truly had a spirit of hospitality and welcomed friends and family into her home as if it were a hotel. She was preceded in death by a special loved one, her beloved Claude Yarborough; her parents: Joe and Mary Jane Floyd; four brothers: C.W. Floyd, Johnny Floyd, James Floyd, and Ezell Floyd and two sisters: Josie McNair and Mary Slater. She leaves to cherish her memories, one son: Glynn (Earstine) Young of Magee, MS; three daughters: Johnnia Kirk of Chicago, IL, Lynn Ferrill of Gulfport, MS and Perita Roberts (Norman McClendon) of Gulfport MS; two stepsons: Charles Young and Percy Lee Young, Jr., both of Magee, MS; one sister: Media Mae McInnis of Mt. Olive, MS; two sisters-in-law: Edna Floyd and Pluma Mae Floyd, both of Mendenhall, MS; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; very special friends, Sherman Roberts, Katherine Durr, Bonnie Cooley, and Samantha Peterson, along with a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be at Richmond August Chapel on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 11:00 am. The visitation will be at 10:00 am. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Richmond August Funeral Home.
