Helena G. Oliver, 92, a resident of Ocean Springs, MS, was born to the late Joe and Helen Wallce in Ocean Springs on April 4, 1932. She departed this life on March 2, 2025, at Greenbriar Nursing Home.
Helena attended Elizabeth Keys School where she received her High School Diploma. During her time in high school, she was a member of the basketball team, alongside her late sisters; Shirley “Bubbles” Wallace Sinigal and Bertrice “Bert” Wallace Eckstein. The team was so successful, they won the 1946 Mississippi Gulf Coast Basketball Championship. Recently, she and another team member from that infamous basketball team were inducted into the Ocean Springs Sports Hall of Fame.
After graduating from high school, she married her high school sweetheart, William aka “Percy” Oliver and traveled the world as an Air Force Spouse. Early in her life, she gave her life to the Lord and was a faithful and devoted member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she served as member of the Trustee Board, the choir, the United Women of Faith, and as a Financial Secretary. In her spare time, she loved surrounding herself and spending time with family and friends.
