James Donald White, Sr.

Mr. James Donald White, Sr., age 77, of Gulfport, peacefully passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021. He was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, September 11, 1943, the son of John and Mellie White. He was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life Lettie White and to this union six wonderful children were born: Pamela, Rena, James Jr., Chandra, Christopher and Ayanna. James, a retired longshoreman and member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1303, was a man whom took pride in providing for his family no matter what obstacles he encountered along the way. A man of many talents, James loved working with his hands and studied and earned certifications and trade skills as an electrician, a locksmith, air-conditioning and heating installation and repair, carpenter, painter and an auto mechanic. Having many interests, James enjoyed grilling, card games, playing darts and working in the yard, but by far the two hobbies he loved the most were fishing and watching cowboy movies. Loved by so many, he will fondly be remembered for his quiet demeanor, fun personality and the unconditional love that he had for his family and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents, John Sullivan White, Sr. and Mellie Blackwell White; two brothers John White, Jr. and Ronald White; three sisters Yvonne Boykin, Mary White Pittman and Polly White. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of 57 years Lettie White; sons James White, Jr. and Christopher White; daughters, Pamela (David) Dallas, Rena White, Chandra White-Moore and Ayanna White; brothers Albert White, Jerome White, Gene White, Farland White and Garland White; sisters Nancy Chapman, Marchelda White and Valerie White; close family friend William “Bill” Schroeder; 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 15, 2021, at Bel Aire Baptist Church at 12:00 P.M. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery in Gulfport, MS.
