On May 18, 2022, Jerome Brown earned his wings and peacefully transitioned from this earth to be in the hands of his Lord and Savior, the Almighty God. Jerome was born on June 13, 1943, to the late George and Lillie Mae Brown, Sr. A native of Eustis, Florida, Jerome accepted Christ at a young age, and was baptized at Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church.

Jerome attended Eustis Vocational High School where he graduated in 1962. After graduation, he moved to Biloxi, MS, and began working at Biloxi Hospital as a cook. While working at Biloxi Hospital, Jerome met his first love, Myrtis Hanshaw.  Jerome soon moved to Ocean Springs, and, in August 1963, he and Myrtis were married.

Jerome joined the Ocean Springs Auxiliary Police Force in 1974, and quickly made his mark. He was recognized in 1974 and 1976 as the Ocean Springs Auxiliary Patrolman of the Year.  In 1980, he received the Officer of the Year Award.  That same year, he was named an Honorary Citizen of Ocean Springs by former Mayor Donald Lawrence “Pat’ O’Connor. In 1982, Mayor O’Connor appointed Jerome as Chief of the Ocean Springs Auxiliary Police. Jerome remained Chief of the Ocean Springs Auxiliary Police until he sustained on the job injuries to his knee and back. Jerome later worked as a security guard at Chevron and at Litton Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS, until he retired in 2006.

A very quiet and reserved man, Jerome never turned his back on someone in need. In his heyday, he was known to be a pristine dresser–clothes always starched, and shoes always shined. In his spare time, Jerome loved to watch his police, crime, and court shows. He was always eager to discuss current issues and national politics.

Preceding him in death are his parents George Brown, Sr. and Lillie Mae Bell, and his brother George Brown, Jr. He has two sisters Rebecca Robinson and Cathy Richardson.

Jerome leaves his loving children to cherish and celebrate his life Rev. Anthony Brown, Sr., Ocean Springs, MS, The Hon. Judge Paula A. Brown, New Orleans, LA, and Calvin Mallett, New Orleans, LA; daughters-in-law Shirley Brown, Vicki Smith, and Dr. Simone Tomlinson-Mallett; grandchildren Tyneequa Thomas, Amietris Brown, Anthony Brown, Jr., and Kennedi Mallett; two sisters-in-law Marie Frazier-Cannon and Mamie Thomas; the Mallett Family; and a host of relatives and friends.
