The earthly life of JoAnn Holliman Holmes Sims came to a close Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, as she closed her eyes on this side and woke up on the other side. Born June 14, 1950, in Gulfport, Mississippi, JoAnn was the second of five children that God gave to the blessed union of Washington Cary �W.C.� Holliman and Luvenia Pritchett Holliman. JoAnn attended Thirty Third Avenue High School in Gulfport. She united with the Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Famous McElhaney. In 1965, JoAnn was joined in holy matrimony to Marcellus Holmes, Sr., and to this union two children were born. She later married John Henry Sims. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Deborah Holliman, and two brothers, McAurther Hollliman, and Roy Milton Holliman. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Marcellus Holmes, Jr. of Gulfport, Mississippi; a daughter, Tabatha Maria Holmes Turner (Anthony Ronald) of Houston, Texas; a brother Arnold Cary Holliman of Louisville, Kentucky; five grandchildren (Marcus Anthony, Jade Brianna, Lauryn Madelyn, Nikita, and Marcellus Cornelius III); one great grandchild, Mariah Briggs; a very special and devoted care giver, Cynthia Holmes; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29 at the Morning Star Baptist Church, 2050 Thornton Avenue, Gulfport. The Family will receive visitors Saturday from 10:00 � 11:00 a.m. at the church.
