First Lt. (United States Marine Corps) passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital in Tampa, FL. John was a native Jacksonian graduating with Honors from Jim Hill High School and in 1970 from Tougaloo College with a Major in Political Science. He was a member of the Greater St James Baptist Church and The Omege Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. John was married to his college sweetheart, Susan Britton, who predeceased him. They had three sons: John, James Quincy and Maurice David. Immediate survivors also include his mother, Lelia Gaston Rhodes and sister, Marilyn Rhodes-Latson. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 14 at 6 - 8 PM at Richmond-August Funeral Home, Biloxi, MS. Military memorial graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Biloxi National Cemetery near Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS. The family has entrusted the care of Mr. Rhodes to the professional staff of RICHMOND-AUGUST FUNERAL HOME.
