MSGT (Retired) John Miller Cowan was born on May 4, 1935 in Ripley, Mississippi, to the late John and Myrtle Cowan. He departed this life on Saturday, January 18th at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. Upon his High School graduation, and his attendance at Rust College in 1953, John entered the United States Air Force where he served his country for twenty-five years as a medical administrative superintendent. He retired from active duty in 1979 from Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Following his active duty military service, John began a second career where he completed eighteen years of faithful, devoted Federal Civilian Service until his second retirement in 1999 from Kessler Air Force Base as a Program Control Assistant. In 1956 MSGT (Retired) Cowan united in holy matrimony with Barbara Morris. Three children were born of this union Bobby, Michael, and Shari. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Annie Lee Cooper and Almerth Battle of Neptune New Jersey. MSGT (Retired) John Miller Cowan is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Barbara Cowan of Biloxi and his children; Bobby( Karen) Cowan of West Palm Beach, Florida, Michael (Joyce) Cowan of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Shari (Gregory) Gipson of Ocean Springs Mississippi, and three sisters Irene(Tillman) Howard, Earline Hill, and Daisy Guyton, four grandchildren, Marcus, Veronica, Whitney, Brandon and a host of other relatives and friends. The family of MSGT (Retired) John Miller Cowan has entrusted his care to the professional staff of Richmond-August Funeral Home.
