Judy Kay Canty was born in Biloxi, MS on August 4, 1949, and was the daughter of Chester Arthur Hicks Sr. and Beatrice Hicks. Judy departed this life on November 2, 2020, in Birmingham, AL.
Judy received her early education in the schools of Biloxi, MS. She graduated from Nichols High School in Biloxi, MS. Judy was a certified and trained Medical Supply Technician. She worked for Howard Memorial Hospital and Biloxi Regional Medical Center for over 15 years. Judy later accepted a civil service position as a Medical Supply Technician at the Birmingham Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. She retired from the VA Medical Center and received a Service Award in appreciation for 25 years of dedicated service to the United States Government.
Judy leaves to cherish her memories two sons Michael (Legretta) Canty of Birmingham, AL and Lieutenant Colonel John Edward Canty III of New Orleans, LA; one sister Betty (Carl) Squires of Gulfport, MS; one brother Chester (Emma) Hicks Jr. of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren Desiree’ Canty of Philadelphia, PA, Torey Canty of New Orleans, LA, Michael Canty of Fayetteville, NC, and Kyven Rumph of Birmingham, AL; two great grandchildren Samiyah Al-Amin of Philadelphia, PA and Jatory Canty of New Orleans, LA; eight nieces Ruby “Tina” Stallworth of Biloxi, MS, Yolanda Hicks of Jackson, MS, LaMonica (James) Greenlee of Deutsville, AL, Jamilai Hicks of Atlanta, GA, Josette Coleman of Gulfport, MS, Loleatha (Kevin) Chestang of Ocean Springs, MS, Nechelle (Marshall) Brandon of Mobile, AL, Christi (Kevin) Hammons of Conway, AR; two nephews Henry (Natasha) Evans of Union City, GA and Cedrick Hicks of Clarksville, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Special friends include Marie Brown of D’Iberville, MS, Montana Jacobs of Gulfport, MS, Carolyn Youngblood of Biloxi, MS, Marjorie Gardner of Birmingham, AL, and friend in Nevada.
Judy will be deeply missed by her family and friends in Mississippi, Alabama, Nevada, Illinois, and other states.
