Mrs. Julia Mae Payton Jessie was born January 6, 1936, in Vancleave, MS. At the age of eighty-eight, our beautiful mother has departed from labor to reward, Wednesday, June 20, 2024, at Ocean Springs Hospital. Julia was the second daughter of The Late Frazier and Rosa Lee Payton, and the third child of thirteen siblings.

Julia attended Elizabeth H. Keys High School of Ocean Springs, MS, where she received her high school diploma. Julia has been an active member of The Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Vancleave, MS., since childhood. She was a member of the senior choir, Sunday school secretary, and was an active member of the Usher board until her health failed. Julia held many other positions of different auxiliaries of the church. Julia was one to never meet strangers, always on the move at all church functions, state and local associations. She will be truly missed by all that knew Julia Mae Jessie.

Julia spent her working career as a housekeeper for the Harpers, Kathy Jacob, and The Morans.

Gone before are her husband, Mr. Isaac Jessie, Jr., parents, Frazier and Rosa Lee Payton; grandmother, Lula Batson; son, Marc Anthony Payton; Grandson’s, Christopher Z. Jessie, Kobe X. Jessie; sister’s, Corrine Buxton, Helen Pittman, Cedonia Payton Frazier, Valice Payton Gross; brother’s Herbert L. Payton, James Stanley Payton, Sr. and Franklin F. Payton.

Julia is survived by two sons; Gregory Allen Payton, Ocean Springs, MS., Isaac Christopher (Saraia) Jessie, Ocean Springs, MS.; daughter Andrea Jessie, Wilmington, DE.; Six grandchildren; Adrainia Hughes, Cornelius A.P. Jessie, Wilmington, DE., Isaac Jessie, Kyree Jessie, Ocean Springs, MS., Serenity Jessie, Biloxi, MS., Jalen Jessie, Texas. Two great-grandkids; Makayla Hughes, Malayla Hughes, Wilmington, DE. Five sisters, Rosenna Catchings, Biloxi, MS., Gloria Jean Payton, Dallas, TX., Dorothy Harris, Gautier, MS., Clarissa (Bernard) Thomas, Mobile, AL., Priscilla Fantroy, Ocean Springs, MS. Two brothers, Ollie (Ruth) Payton, Biloxi, MS., James L. (Jean) Payton, Sr., Ocean Springs, MS. Two sisters in laws, Narcissie Payton, Ocean Springs, MS., Gloristine Payton, Port Gibson, MS. God daughter, Chantell Bailey, Ocean Springs, MS.; and an abundance of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11:00 am, at New Light Baptist Church - Vancleave, MS, at 11:00 am.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
