Major Joe Barfield, Sr. was born September 2, 1943 to Earlie Barfield and Geneva Autmon Barfield in Neshoba, Mississippi. Major Joe was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the Male Choir. Major Joe also sang with the Mighty Stars of Harmony for over 35 years. A hard working man, he was the owner and operator of Barfield Construction. Major Joe Barfield was preceded in death by his parents, Earlie and Geneva Barfield; one son, Major J. Barfield, Jr.; his brother, Jimmy Barfield and one sister, Mattie Barfield Franklin. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Peggy Barfield; four daughters, Tresa Magee, Angela Barfield, Marche (Keith) Bailey and Lashawnda (LaMot) Wilson; three sons, Joseph Barfield, Derrell Stephens Goldsmith and Taris Goldsmith; two sisters, Lena (Abe) Banks and Emma Windham; one brother, Earlie Barfield, four devoted grandchildren, Porsha Smith, Jameika (Darius) Henderson, Talynn Barfield and Curtis Carter III; twenty-one grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends. Services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Moss Point, MS. Vistation from 1:00 - 2:00PM with service immediately following. The family of Mr. Major Joe Barfield has entrusted his care to the professional staff of RICHMOND-AUGUST FUNERAL HOME.
