Mamie Lee May

Mrs. Mamie Lee"(Mickey) May was born on January 29, 1944, to the late Mack Quilly Brown Sr. and Dotsie Seracina Smith Brown in Wesson, MS; at an early age they moved to Fort Walton Beach Florida and later moved to Gulfport, MS.

Mamie (Mickey) attended 33rd Ave. High School in Gulfport, MS. She met and later married Sidney Louis Ferrell Sr. to union one child was born along with the bonus of 13 more children. Mickey accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Bishop E. McDowell.

Mickey was well known for cooking, babysitting, and her passion was loving each and every child and elderly person that she met. She worked as a cook, waitress at Black Stone, The Pit, and Red Ruby café and restaurant in the Quarters a community in Gulfport where she lived.

Mickey was preceded in death by her parents Mack Q. Brown and Dotsie S. Brown, husband Sidney L. Ferrell, four brothers Mack Q. Brown Jr., James Brown Sr., Leon Brown, James (Stonie) Brown. Five sisters, Ella Beamon, Annie B. Guynes, Lena M. Reese, Barbara F. Rembert. Two daughters Angela Coleman, Carlotta Ferrell, one son James Yarbrough. Two grandsons who she adored Tremaine A. Brown, Barrett B. Coleman, four great grandsons, Jayquon D. Tillman, Rakyon D. Brown, Sincere D. James, and Kayonta Yarbrough.

Mickey leaves to cherish her sweet precious memories of her four amazing daughters: Mamie Loretta Brown of Gulfport, MS, Denise Yarbrough, Martina Ferrell and Tara (Ed) Ferrell Ector all of Cleveland, OH. Six awesome sons; James (Doretha) White, Gerald Ferrell of Cleveland, OH, Sidney (Nanette) Ferrel Jr. of Arkon, OH, Atara Ferrell, Sidney Ferrell III, Tyron Ferrell of Cleveland, OH. One brother; Lovell (Billy Joe) Brown of Milwaukee, Wis. One Aunt; Mae C. Smith of Gulfport, MS. Her four amazing caregivers, her grandchildren; Sidney J. James, Romyron D. Brown, Da'kaiza D. Mckelphin, Zenobia McGee of Gulfport, MS. The apple of her eye Aubrey G. Brown, 35 grandchildren, and host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, family, friends, and church family. Mickey special sister Johnnie R. Ferrell Cleveland, OH, God-daughters; Lynette Goff, Katleen Jackson, Doris Parker, a very special niece and nephew; Connie Beamon, Jamie Terrell Reese. A special young man whom she called her son-n- law Warren L. Burks.

Mickey will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her, her giving spirit, smile, laughter, loving ways mostly by her family. Sleep on our angel and take your rest, we loved you, but God loved you best.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, at 1:00 pm.  Visitation will start at 12:00 pm.
