The story of Mary Nell Jones a.k.a. “Tussie” began on June 14, 1945, in Tylertown, MS when a beautiful baby girl was born to bless the union of H.D. and Luverna Dexter. She was the second of eight children. Tussie learned at a young age that the power of Christ must and always will be the center of her life. She attended ST. James United Methodist Church in Tylertown, MS.
Mary Nell completed her education in Tylertown School District at J.J. Gulledge High School. On September 26, 1964, Mary married her sweetheart DeWalter Jones in Tylertown, MS. As life evolved, the couple relocated to Biloxi, MS to make a new life for their family.
Mary’s professional life was spent at Keesler Air Force Base for many years. She later established her own business called Jones Personal Care for Veterans. Tussie became a member of Nance Temple C.O.G.I.C. and she worked tirelessly to help build this church. She was known throughout the congregation as the cake baker, and the potato salad “Queen”. She had a caring spirit and was well-respected. Tussie’s life was a narrative of love for all people, especially family. She never walked away from an opportunity to show her love for family.
