The late Pastor Melvin James Walker was born on December 9, 1954 to the union of Sidney Walker & Minnie Brown Walker in Gulfport, MS.
He was educated in the Gulfport School District and was an avid sports fan, the New Orleans Saints being his favorite team. He was an honest, an earnest and upright individual, respected as well as reputable.
The most important of his life accomplishments was his re-birth; after which he served with his beloved wife Pastoring the Greater Christian Worship Holy Ministries.
Melvin had an unsurpassed work ethic. His entire work history was with one employer, most notably Butch Outstalet Lincoln Ford Mercury Auto Dealership in Gulfport where he was a dedicated employee for 45 years and retired June 2020.
He is preceded by his parents Sidney and Minnie Walker; three brothers, Jeromie Lee Walker, Sr, Curtis B. Walker, Sr. and Michael Walker.
On May 17, 1975, he was united in Holy Matrimony with Cora C. Thompson, and to this union there are eight children, all raised in their home with love and compassion.
He leaves to cherish precious memories, his wife of 45 years, Pastor Cora C. Walker; three daughters; Vanessa Thompson, Latonya (Ronald) Goff, Laneisha Goff all of Gulfport, five sons;, Kenneth (Karen) Thompson, Sr., US Army Active Duty, Kenneth Thompson, Jr., resides in Wichita Falls, TX, Lewis Thompson, Reco Thompson Zy’Keivon Thompson, Jr. all of Gulfport; three brothers, Sidney Walker, Jr., Roderick Walker of Gulfport, MS; Gary D. Walker of Memphis, TN; six sisters, Arlean Bessard, Rossie Walker, Carolyn McInnis, Gloria (Roger) Boose, Sharon (Vincent) Whittle of MS. His favorite aunt Bonnie J. Rays of Memphis, TN; eight Great GrandChildren; a vast number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers in law, sisters in law, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Walker will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020, at Greater Christian Worship Ministry. Viewing will begin at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am.
