Ms. Oveadear Norwood passed away November, 1, 2016. She was born in Silver Creek, MS., on July 7, 1941 to the late Gertrude Warner Newsome.
Oveadear attended school in Jefferson Davis School District and joined Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Later in life, she met and married the late Frank Norwood, Jr., and moved to Gulfport in 1965. She later united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and served in the Senior Choir. Oveadear was a farmer, cook, and homemaker. She always welcomed everyone with a smile on her face.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Frank Norwood, Jr.; her mother, Gertrude Warner Newsome; a brother, Carsie Newsome; a son, Orlander Newsome; and her longtime companion, Willie R. Seals.
Oveadear leaves to cherish her memories, two brothers, Herman Newsome of Forrest, MS, and McKinley (Connie) Newsome of Prentiss, MS; a sister, Nora Newsome of Prentiss, MS; five sons, Mitchell Newsome of Gulfport, MS, Jerrell (Janet) Newsome of Prentiss, MS, Brian Norwood, Dexter Norwood, Darrin (Paulette) Norwood, all of Gulfport, MS; two daughters, Angela (Kerry) Norwood and Colette Norwood, both of Gulfport, MS; three special stepsons, Henry Hinton, Gary Alexander, and Tommy Hinton, all of Gulfport, MS; 19 grandchildren; 7 greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
