Pastor Donald Ray Sewer was born on May 3, 1959 in Pascagoula, MS; to Deacon Egbert & Sallie Mae Sewer of Grand Bay, Alabama. He passed from this life on September 23, 2015 at the Mobile Infirmary Hospital. Pastor Sewer was a native and life-long resident of Grand Bay, Alabama. He was born one of ten children. He received Christ as his personal savior at the age of eight years old. Pastor Sewer graduated from Mobile County High school. He also attended Southwest Tech and Oakdale Bible School, both in Mobile, Alabama; while under the leadership of then Pastor Samuel Jenkins of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Grand Bay, Alabama. Before becoming a Pastor of his own church, he worked for many years as the Produce Manager at Sims Supermarket (known now as Greer�s Food Tiger) in Grand Bay, Alabama, where he met and ministered to most of the Grand Bay Community and many surrounding areas. He also volunteered by feeding the homeless at the �Faith by Works� food bank in Grand Bay, Alabama for approximately 6 years. On August 16, 1979 Pastor Sewer married the late Minister Valerie T. Sewer, to whom he was married for 29 years until her death in 2009. To their union two children were born, Patrick and Kendra; and on July 10, 2012 he was remarried to Mildred Denise Sewer. Pastor Sewer also served as teacher of the Junior, Youth, Adult classes and was the Assistant Superintendent of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Sunday School. In November 1989, Pastor Sewer received his call to the ministry and was ordained under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Bobby Young. He also faithfully served under the leadership of Overseer Jason L. Johnson and was a current member of the Life City Fellowship of Churches Ministries (L.C.F.C.M) of Biloxi, Mississippi. Pastor Sewer was a true man of God. He cared for everyone. He especially loved Christ, his family and his ministry. His deepest desire was that all men would receive Christ and be saved. He was very humble and soft spoken, but was very serious about Jesus Christ. On January 9, 1994 Pastor Sewer obeyed God's call, as he established and founded The New Beginning Ministry Church, where he was installed at its current location in Grand Bay, Alabama on January 12, 1996. He served faithfully as the founder and leader until he transitioned to his heavenly home. Preceding him in death was: his late wife, Minister Valerie T. Sewer; his parents, Egbert & Sallie Sewer; his grandparents, Emmitt & Mary Fountain, Joseph Sherrod, Egbert & Hattie Sewer; brother, Egbert �Ray� Sewer; his niece, Mason Sewer and his nephew, Corey Blackwell. His memories will forever be cherished by his loving family: his wife Mildred Denise Sewer; his children, Patrick Sewer and Kendra (Travis) Dixon, honorary son, Andrew (Tabitha) Sewer of Williamsburg, Virginia; four brothers, Alex (Glenda) Sewer, Cornelius (Virginia) Sewer and Darryl Sewer all of Grand Bay, AL, Antoine (Sherry) Sewer of Mobile, AL; Four sisters, Patricia Sewer, Elizabeth (Ron) Roberson, Cassandra (Calvin) Smalls all of Jacksonville, FL and Annette Spencer of Glendale, AZ; two brothers-in-law, Kevin(Ruth) Kent, of Grand Bay, AL, Harold (Natalie) Kent of Mobile, AL; five sister-in laws, Brenda (Ronnie) Kennon, of Mobile, AL, Shelia Kent, of Biloxi, MS, Diane Brown, of Montgomery, AL, Verdia Gamble, of Atlanta, GA;, five aunts, Annie Jane (Devert) Lee and Generetta Nettles of Moss Point, MS, Betty (Rev. Willie Griffin Jr.) of Pascagoula, MS, Sudie B. Bridges of Hesperia, CA and Betty Sewer of Grand Bay, AL; three uncles, Douglas (Cheyneitha) Fountain, Alfredo (Olga Mae) Sewer and Rev. Roosevelt (Dora) Sewer all of Grand Bay, AL; his only granddaughter, Kadence Dixon; three grandchildren of his current marriage, Sharee Kent, Callie Kent and Carl Kent, Jr; six godchildren, Charity Smalls, Porsha Kimbrough, Christopher Brown II, Tashunda Montgomery, Janiah Todd and Madisyn Hudson. Devoted friends: Celestine Kennedy, Tommy Dockery, Valerie Henderson, Minister Darnell Stallworth, Rev. Carlton Jones, Rev. Dr. Bobby Young, Minister Chris Montgomery, Douglas Fountain and Overseer Jason L. (Minister Kim) Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends. And a special thanks to the Grand Bay Ministerial Alliance and the Pastor and members of the First Baptist Church of Grand Bay and the doctors and staff of the Mobile Infirmary Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 3, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Grand Bay, AL, located at 10170 Grand Bay Wilmer Rd., Grand Bay, AL 36541. The viewing will be from 10:00am to 11:00am. Funeral Services will follow immediately at 11:00am, with Elder Jason L. Johnson officiating.
