Mrs. Rachel Magee Weathersby affectionally known as Mother Weathersby was born July 17, 1925, to the late Will and Ada Magee in Prentiss, MS. She was number eight of sixteen children.
Mother Weathersby accepted Christ at an early age and fellowshipped with Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She married Jerome Weathersby on January 25, 1945, and remained in that marriage for fifty-seven years until his death in 2002. There in Prentiss, she completed her education at Prentiss Institute before moving to Biloxi and later earned her degree at Tuskegee Institute which is now Tuskegee University. Mother Weathersby united with Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of Reverend C.L. Lindsey and over the years she ministered in many different ministries serving as church secretary, treasurer, Sunday school, Deaconess, motherboard, and choir. Mother Weathersby was also very active in the city of D'Iberville and performed her civic duty there. She was also a lifelong member of the NAACP and at one time worked as a substitute teacher then later joined the Head Start Program where she became an area director.
Mother Weathersby was proceeded in death by her husband Jerome Weathersby and two of her children Donald Weathersby and Terry Weathersby.
She leaves to mourn five children: Carolyn Weathersby Johnson (Glenn) of D'Iberville MS, Kathy Weathersby Nobles (Joseph) of Mobile AL, Marilyn Weathersby Correia (Stanley) of Biloxi MS,Douglas Weathersby (Cheryl) of Jackson MS, and Jerome Weathersby, Jr. (Magdelene) of D'Iberville MS. Thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 12;00 pm at Infinity Funeral Chapel, visitation will start at 10:00 am. Burial will be on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 10:00 am at Biloxi National Cemetery.
