Master Sergeant Ronnie Lee Jones, “Ron”, 57, died peacefully in his Gulfport, MS home on July 19, 2017. MSgt Jones was born on September 24, 1959 in Meridian, MS to Mr. Albert Jones, Sr. and Mrs. Florence Jones.
He graduated from Meridian High School and joined the U.S. Air Force. In 1979, he completed basic training at Loring AFB, Maine. MSgt Jones’ first assignment was Royal AFB Mildenhall, England. In 1983, he was assigned to Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS, where he met and married Elizabeth Applewhite. They had three children: Jeremy Jones, Jerisha Jones and Juwan Jones. In 1992, MSgt Jones received a three year assignment to Sembach, Germany. In 1996, MSgt Jones received an assignment to Travis AFB, California. He retired from Travis AFB and returned to Gulfport, MS until his death.
He was a brave and loyal Airman, as well as a patient and loving husband, father and brother. He is preceded in death by his father, Albert Jones, Sr.; his mother, Florence Jones; a brother, Albert Jones, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Frank Portis.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jones; two sons, Jeremy (Brittney) Jones and Juwan Jones, both of Gulfport, MS; two daughters, Jerisha (Michael) Myers of Great Lakes, IL and Whitney Jones of Meridian, MS; five sisters, Shirley Little of Forrest Park, GA, Ann Portis of Meridian, MS, Janet (John) Roach of Decatur, GA, Connie Jones of Stone Mountain, GA and Tonya (Alex) Banks of Waynesboro, MS; one brother, Ted (Mattie) Jones of Hartford, CT; six grandchildren, Jayla Jones, Xavier McCall, Ji’Ayer Jones, Brennan Jones, Jeremy Jones, Jr., and Amia Myers; his in-laws that loved him dearly Andrew and Ruby McLemore of Gulfport, MS, Gertie (Frank) Harris of Mobile, AL and Michael McLemore of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
