Stanley Lee Smith, age 55, son of the late Ella Mae Smith Anderson, was born November 19, 1958 in Gulfport, MS. On Friday, October 10, 2014, Stanley departed his earthly tabernacle, of complications from a long battle with type II diabetes. As a young boy, Stanley attended the Gulfport public school district and Piney Woods Life School where he received his diploma. He also attended Job Corps where he received a brick mason certification. He later moved to California where he worked at the Machine Shop and the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Upon returning to Gulfport he was employed by Waste Management and Goodwill Industries and other odd jobs. Stanley could most often be found enjoying his favorite past-time fishing, and as much as he enjoyed fishing he also enjoyed cooking what he caught as well as cooking other things. Stanley also loved and enjoyed his family and all kids. Stanley was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Mae Smith Anderson, Grandparents Charles and Lillian Smith, and Uncle Leon Smith. He leaves behind one brother Steven (Mary) Smith of Fullerton, CA and one devoted sister Carla Smith of Gulfport, MS. He also leaves behind two nephews, Cory and Christopher Smith one Aunt, Odessa Smith Brumfield of (Texas) and two Uncles, Charles Smith of Gulfport, MS and Frank (Linda) Smith of (Texas) and a host of cousins. Although he is gone, his memory will live on in our hearts forever Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 830 Riley Ave., Gulfport; at 11:00 a.m. with visitation on hour prior. The family of Mr. Stanley L. Smith has entrusted his care to the professional staff of Richmond-August Funeral Home.
