Troy Fitzgerald Fleming, 48, a resident of Oakland, CA, passed away on February 21, 2021. He was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on July 6, 1972, the son of the late Joseph M. Fleming and Rena Hand Fleming.
Troy was baptized on September 3, 1972, at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Biloxi, MS. Troy attended St. James Elementary and St. John High School in Gulfport, MS. In the eighth grade, he moved with his mother to Jackson, MS where he went on to graduate from Saint Joseph’s High School.
A standout athlete, Troy received an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Florida International University in Miami, FL. During his sophomore year of college, Troy fell ill with cancer. Eventually, he could no longer play basketball and he was given a full academic scholarship. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science in 1997.
After graduating from college, Troy assisted with athletic recruitment at Florida International University before transitioning to grant distribution and accounting. Troy worked at several universities during his career and most recently worked in the accounting department at the University of California at Berkeley.
Troy was preceded in death by his father, Joseph M. Fleming, and godfather, Robert Fleeton.
Troy is survived by his mother, Rena Mae Hand-Fleming; two brothers, Marc Fleming and Eric Fleming (Jennifer); nieces, Savannah, Mackenzie, and Zuri Fleming, San Francisco, CA; godmother Lois Bolton, Ocean Springs, MS: goddaughter, Dr. Tiffany Andry, Chelsea, AL, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 12, 2021, at Infinity Funeral Home in Biloxi, MS. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Saint James Catholic Church Cemetery immediately after the service.
