Velvet LaLinda Salter, 54, a resident of Gulfport, MS, passed away August 8, 2017 at her home.
She was born in Gulfport, MS, August 22, 1962, the daughter of Abraham and Lula Mae Bolden, Jr. Velvet attended Gulfport High School. She was married to Stephon Salter on September 21, 1991.
Velvet worked in the dietary departments of Driftwood Nursing Home, Memorial Behavioral Health, the Gulfport Yacht Club, and Gulfport Mental Health – CSU.
She will be greatly missed by many family, friends, and co-workers for her love, commitment, and genuine kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Lula Mae Bolden, Jr.; a brother, Dr. Melwyn Ryan Bolden; an aunt, Brenda Johnson; a cousin, Menyel Smith; and best friend, Patricia Ball.
Velvet is survived by her husband, Stephon Salter; two children, Paul W. Bolden, Jr. and Kelix Bolden, both of Gulfport; nine grandchildren, Chateka, JaCoria, Domenic, Dedrick, Xzavier, Jackson, Rhenna, Michelle, and Serena; one great-grandchild, Skyler; three brothers, Nathaniel Bolden, Eric Bolden and James Heard; four sisters, Renee Bolton, Yvette Hannibal, Dr. Ju-Kenya (Eric) Crawford, and Samantha Turner; an uncle, Jimmy (Etta) Smith; father and mother-in-law, Johnny Howard and LuJean Salter; a brother-in-law, Reginald Salter; four sisters-in-law, Beatrice, Delia, Shannon and Sandra; four nephews, Stanley, Kendrick, Kendall and DeMarkus; three nieces, Gina, Dayjsa, and Sheneeka; a great-nephew, Kolvin; two devoted friends, Madeline Dedeaux and Jennifer Burks; an extended family, the dietary department of CSU; and a host of other relatives and friends.
