Vernon C. Burney Sr.

Vernon “Bit” Carl Burney, Sr., 80, received his call home on Monday, April 24^th, 2023. Although a resident of Houston, TX, he was born on July 26^th, 1942, in Vancleave, MS to Samuel Sheffield Burney, Sr. and Romeace Burney. Vernon went on to attend E. H. Keys High School and Rust College in Holly Springs, MS. 

Vernon was a car enthusiast, western watching, blues music lover. As an adult he spent his working career at Chevron working as a petroleum operator.

Bit was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Sheffield Burney, Sr. and Romeace Burney and his two brothers, Samuel “Boot” Burney, Jr. and Harry “Tuck” Burney.

Bit is survived by his two sisters, Gloria Jean (Van) Whittle and Romeace LaVelle Fairley, his two brothers Lanar (Sherika) Wright – Crowley, TX and Raynar (Robin) Wright – Detroit, MI, his children Sabrina (James) Zollicoffer – Houston, TX, Katreena (Jerry) Burns – Miramar, FL, Vernon “Scooter” (Adrienne) Burney, Jr. – Ocean Springs, MS, Carl Burney – Ocean Springs, MS, Demathraus Porter – Chicago, IL. 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services for Vernon “Bit” Burney will be held May 6^th, 2023, at 11:00 AM at New Light Baptist Church in Vancleave, MS. Repast to follow.  Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
